WJ welcomed Mitchell Duque to the school’s coaching staff for the 2013-2014 season. His WJ accomplishments include the Girls Division I title and Montgomery County championship in 2017 and 2024, Girls Division II title in 2016, and several individual county champions, a mixed doubles regional and state finalist, and 3 mixed doubles regional and state champions. In 2018, Coach Mitch was named the Washington Post All Met Coach of the Year for girls tennis. Additionally, he has served as the sport director for all of MCPS boys and girls tennis and is the District 2 representative for Montgomery County at the MPSSAA state committee.
Coach Mitch is a USPTA certified professional with over 40 years of playing experience and has taught private lessons since 1996. He was the director of tennis at Landon’s summer camp in 2018 and 2019 and then at Holton Arms from 2021 to 2023. He previously worked at Norbeck Country Club as an assistant tennis professional. Mitch coached the boys varsity tennis team at Magruder High School from 2011-2013 guiding Magruder to the 2012 Division II title. During his tenure at Magruder he was awarded the 2012 and 2013 MCPS Athletics Sportsmanship Award. Coach Mitch is currently an MCPS substitute and also teaches private lessons. He has formally worked as a fourth grade teacher in MCPS. In his younger days, Mitch played for Quince Orchard high school where his accomplishments included an undefeated season in doubles, a Division II championship, and a share of the Division I title his senior year.
